Educational Outing to Lory Park Animal & Owl Sanctuary

On 10 September 2016, AAAKEE treated 60 children and their care-givers from Ithembelihle Lsen School for handicapped children to an educational outing at the Lory Park Animal & Owl Sanctuary in Midrand.

Lory Park Animal & Owl sanctuary is a little haven one would not expect to find in the hustle and bustle between Johannesburg and Pretoria. Situated in Midrand, it is a what many people like to call a ‘boutique zoo’ – a place where animals can be appreciated up close, where human and animal interaction is welcomed, creating a personal and peaceful atmosphere.

On the day, the children were treated to snacks and a full lunch, after a complete educational tour around the park, from big cat enrichment, bird watching, and feeding of the owls, to bird watching, the viewing of Ruby, the read-tailed Boa, and an encounter with Litcie, the Bearded Dragon.

In her letter of thanks to us, principal Leonor Ngozi said, “there are many words that can adequately describe [our] thank you and sincere appreciation, but truly none can express our feelings [of] our admiration and appreciation for your kindness by organising [this trip] for our learners.”

“It is always worthwhile for them since they are not exposed in interaction with their environment. … Your selfless endeavours have made a huge difference in our learners’ self-esteem”, she continued.

We would like to extend this word of thanks to all sponsors that made this consignment possible – your continued support is truly appreciated, and a wonderful blessing for the kids, as described above.
